Tips from locals: What to do in Belek?
Belek is a vigorous resort visited by tourists from all over the world. Famed for its golf resorts, Belek is a hive of sporting activity. It is in an excellent location with access to both sites of historical interest and the lively city of Antalya.
So the question is where to start and what will suit you best on your holiday? Here are some ideas and recommendations provided by our trusted locals.
What is recommended for families with young children?
There are so many family-friendly hotels in Belek that you may have a hard time convincing the kids to leave the pool and kids club. That said, there are a few must-visit places that the kids will love.
Many excursions are available from Belek, jeep safari and a pirate ship being among the favourites. If you are looking for something a little different, a trip to Antalya and the aquarium will make both adults and kids happy and be educational.
Most Sundays in Turkey, families make a trip out to the local rivers and parks or venture into the city.
What are the sites of historical interest?
Whilst Belek is home to modern hotels and expansive beaches, many places of interest are just a stone's throw away. Once you get onto the dual carriageway, there are numerous ancient cities within a half-hour drive. The closest and most impressive of these is the amphitheatre at Aspendos.
There is also the ancient city of Perge, where you can walk amongst the ruins and get a real feel for Roman life. These are just a few of the places of interest, and if you are prepared to travel a little more, you will come across a plethora of history in the Antalya region.
Where is the best nightlife?
Of course, this depends on what you want from a night out, but if you are looking for some entertainment outside of your hotel, it is well worth a trip to Antalya for some city nightlife with literally hundreds of bars and nightclubs to choose from. Also, closer to home, you will find some tourist bars and restaurants worth visiting.
The best night out, though, is a trip to the Gloria Arena near the amphitheatre of Aspendos to enjoy a show by the famous dance group Fire of Anatolia.
Are there any adventures to be had in Belek?
If you are looking for an adventure on your holiday, you may take to a day out at Land of Legends theme park, where there is fun to be had for all the family.
If you want more adrenalin, you could ride the cable car to the top of Mount Olympos, which is not a ride for the faint-hearted.
A little further afield, you could make a hot air balloon ride over the ruins at Pamukkale or face the rapids on an organised rafting excursion. The adventures are there, just waiting for you!
