Tips from locals: What to do in Fethiye?

Fethiye area offers a wide range of activities. So whether you are staying in Oludeniz, Hisaronu, Calis Beach or Fethiye itself, you can participate in all of the fantastic adventures in the region.

Here's a brief guide from locals to help you plan the ultimate holiday itinerary.

What’s the best way to entertain young children in Fethiye?

There is so much to keep children and adults occupied during your holiday. The only bother you'll have to choose what to do.

Of course, a day around the pool is great, but what do you do when that starts to get boring?

There are two absolute 'musts' for a day out with the kids. The first is the Oludeniz boat trip. What could be better than a day at sea playing pirates dress up? With onboard entertainment, the kids will be kept happy while the adults can relax and enjoy the sunshine.

The second is, of course, the water park. Whilst this is a relatively small park, you will be happy with the compact size and the small distance between a surprisingly large amount of slides. It is a great day out with peace of mind for parents who want to watch their kids closely.

What do you suggest for large groups and/or families?

When travelling in a large group, keeping the whole part happy can sometimes be challenging. There are many activities, but the most ideal for larger groups is 12 islands boat trip to swim and sunbathe in total relaxation.

If you are a group of thrill seekers, you could try rafting. Depending on numbers, you could even find yourselves with a raft of just your group!

There is also the most popular choice of the Jeep safari, which encompasses just the right amount of sun, swimming, adrenalin and places of cultural interest that you are sure to keep everyone in the group happy!

What about the solo visitor to Fethiye?

The people in the Fethiye region are some of the most friendly in Turkey. You are not likely to feel alone when you say good morning to the locals you pass by at the beach or market.

If you are looking for like-minded travellers, you can join almost any excursion and make friends in no time. On the other hand, if you prefer a bit more solitude, you may opt for a horse ride.

Tandem paragliding adventure might be another activity where you soar the skies with only your pilot and the birds.

Whatever your preferences, you will be welcomed with open arms and embraced by the locals!

Is there anything to do in Fethiye in the winter?

Fethiye is a working town that continues to run even after the last tourists have returned home. You will likely find the streets of Hisaronu and Oludeniz much quieter in winter, but Fethiye and Calis are still very much open for business.

New Year fetes and parties are organised; these are worth visiting. Whilst many excursions cease for the winter, you will find that it is still possible to take to the skies paragliding, as well as a few others.

A visit to the market in Fethiye is a lovely afternoon out, and tours are organised to visit Pamukkale or Ephesus too.

Are there any activities suitable for couples in the Fethiye area?

Couples looking for romance can travel to the restaurant on Babadag Mountain for a dining experience. This is a great way to watch the sunset in a setting with the best views.

If you are looking for daytime activity, a private boat hire will set you up for a romantic sea trip. If all the romance is a thing of the past, you may like to participate in any of the activities recommended above for groups or solo travellers!

What is the best way to enjoy the nightlife?

If you want a clubbing experience, you should head into Hisaronu, a haven for several nightclubs attracting younger Turks and clubbers. 

If you prefer a more peaceful evening, there are many restaurants and bars to choose from, whichever area you stay in. 

Oludeniz has a slightly more relaxed pace and is a great place to watch the sunset. 

If you want entertainment or an evening away from the usual bars and restaurants, consider a trip to the top of Baba Dag to watch the sun setting. 

You may also attend a Turkish Night, where you will combine culture and fun in one fabulous evening!
