Alanya > Caves in Alanya

Alanya is a city where you can discover many land and sea caves. Traveling through the fascinating world of stalactites and stalagmites formed over thousands of years, you will be transported to a fantasy world.

Dim Cave is located 12 km east of Alanya, on the slope of Jebel-i-Reis mountain. Its height reaches 232 meters, its age is estimated at 1 million years. The cave was first presented to visitors in 1998 and is currently the second largest cave in Alanya. There are two paths inside the cave, one is 50m and the other is 360m. The long path is lit to provide a pleasant tour offering visitors stunning scenery of stalagmites and stalactites. After the tour, you can walk down the path to Dim Creek Valley or walk up the cave from the creek picnic area. On the slope where the cave is located, a panoramic view of the fortress of Alanya opens up.

Damlatas Cave was discovered in 1948 quite by accident while mining for the construction of the harbor. It lies at the western foot of the Hold Peninsula. Stalactites and stalagmites inside the cave formed over 15 thousand years. In addition to its amazing beauty, the Damlatas cave is famous for its clean air, which is useful for asthma patients. According to research by scientists, the air in the Damlatas cave contains 10 times more carbon dioxide than normal air and has a humidity of 95%. The temperature in the cave is 22 degrees Celsius.

Pirate Cave is located in the southeastern part of the peninsula, next to the medieval fortress. It can only be reached by sea by boat. According to legend, pirates kept stolen property and girls here. The bottom of the cave is teeming with various kinds of fish, making this a popular place for diving.

Phosphorus Cave is another amazing cave in the area of the fortress, which can only be accessed from the sea. The wonderful properties of the Phosphorus Cave are manifested due to its geological structure and the coating of the walls with phosphorus. As a result, the cave is light both during the day and at night. In summer, you can leave the boat at the entrance and swim there on your own.

The Cave of Lovers is located in the southwest of the historical peninsula and has two entrances. Like the Pirate Cave, this cave cannot be accessed by boat. To get inside, you need to climb the rocks. Although the length of the cave is 75 meters, the ceiling in the cave is low, so it is necessary to bend over in some parts. It is believed that the cave was called the Cave of Lovers, as couples secretly met here.
