Side Rafting

  Last Updated: March 25, 2024

Is it hot in the city? It’s time to go rafting on a mountain river, where the air is very different, where the mountains give off a cool vibe and the emerald clear water invites you in. We offer you a chance to enjoy easy and pleasant team sport, forest scents, cool mountain river and unbelievable natural beauty of Köprülü Canyon on “Side Rafting” tour.

We leave the hotel in the morning by luxury minibus to the canyon. An experienced professional instructor will teach you the basics of safety (Rafting in Side is for tourists, i.e. the complexity level is for beginners). You will get a special life jacket and helmet. With a friendly team (up to 10-12 people) and an instructor we start the first rafting session (up to 10 km) in a raft (a special safe boat).

Then we have a rest break and a tasty lunch. After a swim we will raft down the river again. The photos from this tour will be some of the most successful and favourite ones. The landscape in Köprülü Park is picturesque.

All equipment, transfers, and lunch at a restaurant by the river are included in the price of the tour. We set off in the morning each day. This tour is available in four options (please see below).

Turkey is fast becoming one of the most popular destinations for rafting and the river at Manavgat is just perfect for novices and experienced rafters alike. This area in Manavgat along the Koprucay River is the most popular river for white water rafting in Turkey.  The rapids are a Grade 2 where most other rapids are a Grade 6.  Because of the gentle nature of the rapids anyone with a basic ability to swim can join this tour. The approximate length of the Koprucay River is 14 kilometres, along some of the most stunning backdrop scenery in the world.

Rafting is an intense sport and one that needs teamwork.  You are sure to make friends for life as you get to know the team on your raft and get over the rapids together.  There are of course routes of different intensities and you are able to go landside for any areas that you are ot comfortable or experienced enough to deal with.  This said your instructor will be there to help and will make any safety decisions necessary to make sure that you have the best and safest day out!

You will have the experience of a life time floating down the river past the cool of the woods and truly at one with nature.  This is a fantastic way to see the flora and fauna of the area in a unique and exciting way.

Side Rafting Itinerary

You will be picked up from your hotel or apartment in Side and taken in an air conditioned, comfortable vehicle to the base in the Koprulu Canyon National Park.  The base is near to Manavgat where you will be riding the  Koprucay river by raft.  The drive to Koprulu Canyon is approximately one hour from Side Hotels.  When you arrive you will be greeted by your Instructor for the day, who will give you a safety talk and issue you the necessary safety equipment for your tour.  People of the same language are allotted to each raft, so there is no room for misunderstanding as you negotiate the white water.  The rafts hold around 12 people at one time.

Once you have been issued your safety equipment you will all jump into the water of the river, to get used to the coolness of the water and feel the buoyancy of your life-jacket.  This is called ‘body rafting’ and will give you a greater confidence before you join your raft and begin rowing.

After about 40 minutes of rowing and adrenalin you will stop for a well earned break on the river bank.  Here you can swim, sunbathe, relax or jump into the water from the platforms or trees.  Once you have enjoyed your time relaxing, it will be time to hop back onto the raft for the next leg of the river.  After around 20 minutes you will stop for lunch, after building up an appetite, no doubt.  The river is an area of outstanding natural beauty so lunchtime is an ideal opportunity to sit back and enjoy the view.

Lunch

The lunch venue will be a riverside restaurant and should consist of BBQ chicken, rice or pasta, with salad and the inevitably delicious fresh Turkish bread.  Once lunch is done, it is back on board the raft for the last part of your journey and back to base.  With fully qualified instructors per each raft,  you can relax knowing you are in safe hands and just enjoy the tour but dont forget to row!

Once back at the base you will have  time to relax, when you can view any photographs or DVD that were taken while you were enjoying yourself on the river, forgetting the cares of the world.  You should arrive back at the base at around 15.30 pm and from there you will be returned to your original point of pick up, hotel or apartment in Side.

This tour is fully insured and your ticket price covers your rafting experience, qualified Instructor, necessary safety equipment (helmet and life jacket), plus lunch and transfer to and from your hotel or apartment in Side.  Your time of transfer will be confirmed to you on booking and the Rafting experience will last approximately 6 hours.

Who would enjoy this tour?

This tour is for families, single people and groups alike.  We do not recommend the tour for very young children or pregnant women.  The same recommendation is for people with physical difficulties.

What is necessary to have with me?

You should bring with you a change of clothes, sun cream, and do wear your swim suits beneath your shorts and T Shirts.  Good sunglasses are a great idea, as is good footwear that will enable you to walk and stand in the river without slipping.  Due to the nature of the tour, electronic items should be left at the hotel, likewise any items of value such as jewellry.

Will I be able to purchase photographs or videos?

There will be a resident professional photographer taking action and fun pictures of you throughout the day.  These can be viewed back at the base at the end of the tour.  We recommend that you bring a little money with you should you wish to purchase these pictures, or even to just buy a drink.
