Easily the largest city in Turkey, with its mixed cultures, history and architecture, Istanbul sits, as always, a main player on the stage of world history. The instantly recognisable skylines have nothing to do with skyscrapers and modern buildings but more to do with ancient Rome and Byzantine Emperors, all players in religious and world politics. For 400 years Istanbul has been in the safe hands of the Ottoman Empire and redefined itself as a city with a foot on two continents. To love modern Istanbul, is to love life.
Statistically, Istanbul is 810 kilometres from Marmaris, or to put it succinctly, a 50 minute flight away. If you didn’t think it could be done in a day, then think again. An early morning internal flight from Dalaman and you can be drinking Turkish coffee in Sultanahmet Square in the shade of the Blue Mosque by 10:00.
This is a fantastic opportunity to have a taste of what Istanbul has to offer without sacrificing your beach holiday. As you can be there and back within 24 hours you will still have plety of time for other acivities and will be able to feel satisfied that you have visited arguably one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
