This trip is the perfect combination of culture and history all whilst aboard a beautiful boat coasting along the Mediterranean crystal waters. This three in one tour will whisk you away to the magical and mystical sunken historical sites of Kekova, the ancient ruins and tombs of Myra and the infamous Christian churches in the town of Demre where St. Nicholas himself is buried. So grab your sun cream and your camera and hop on board the spacious glass bottomed boat and get ready for an adventure in the sun!
This trip will leave you in amazement as you learn about ancient history, culture of long ago and prehistoric rock carvings. The important site at Kekova is very interesting because it is actually a whole town that is now submerged inside the turquoise sea. The town was buried under water after an earthquake forced the land to slide into the ocean, bringing the whole city along with it.
The salty sea water has preserved the buildings and monuments, however instead of humans there are now fish inhabiting the city! The generously sized glass bottom boat will slowly take you over the top of the underwater city so that you can really get a proper good look, almost like a bird’s eye view! The professional and experienced tour guide will be on hand to tell you all about the monuments and buildings that you will see including a Byzantine church, as well as many ruins and lots of interesting stories!
Myra Town is an ancient Lycian town that is full of fascinating views just waiting to be discovered. There are many tombs that have been carved into rocks and the extraordinary amphitheatre for a start. A really momentous place to snap up some interesting photos!
Demre town is famous because it is the home to St. Nicholas church, an ancient East Roman basilica church which is now a museum and welcomes visitors to come and see where St. Nicholas himself was buried all of those years ago. Over half a million pilgrims and visitors come annually to see the tomb and to pray.
