You may well be visiting one of the most amazing cities in the world, but how about combing your stay in Istanbul with a visit to Bursa, one of the most important cities in Turkey? With Istanbul Bursa Day Trip you can see tihs beautigul green city that boasts stunning landscapes steeped in history as well as being home to one of the most popular ski resorts in Turkey.

The journey itself to Bursa is one not to be missed.  You will travel by ferry boat over the Marmara Sea, taking in the stunning views of Istanbul before heading toward the lush green forests along the coast of Yalova.  With stops along the way at Iznik Lake you will make your way towards Bursa.

Perhaps most symbolic of Bursa is the Green Mosque, yes you’ve seen the Blue now it’s time to visit the Green.  The Mosque was built in the 15th Century and its official name is the Mosque of Mehmed I, after the Sultan that commissioned its building.  More than ‘just’ a Mosque it is actually a full complex of buildings that also include the Green Tomb where Sultan Mehmed I Celebi was buried.  So named after the stunning turquoise and green tiles used to decorate this complex it is certainly a place worthy of a visit for any history buff.

Dominating the skyline of Bursa is Uludag Mountain.  Uludag Mountain is so much more than a famous ski resort; it is also a National Park that is home to many different species of flora and fauna.  The National Park is easily visited by cable car and regardless of the season in which you are visiting will be full of natural wonders for you to see.

The day includes a visit to a local Turkish delight workshop, where you can see how it is made and taste the varieties. This stop is part of the itinerary, and there is never any obligation to buy; if you do shop, we recommend checking prices before purchasing, as in any busy tourist area.

What to expect

  1. Your guide and coach meet you at your hotel at approximately 08:00 to begin the journey to Bursa — your guide stays with you throughout the day.
  2. Drive to the harbour on the Asian side of the city, passing over the Bosphorus Bridge with views across Istanbul.
  3. Your bus boards the ferry across the Marmara Sea towards Yalova — you can get off the bus and walk around the ferry as you sail.
  4. Continue by coach to Iznik Lake for a short 1 hour break, with free time by the lakeside. Hiring an ATV or joining other activities there is an extra cost, payable locally.
  5. Stop at a Turkish delight manufacturer on the way to Bursa — learn how the sweet is made and sample the varieties. There is never any obligation to buy.
  6. Climb into the foothills of Uludag Mountain, stopping at a 600 year old plane tree, then lunch.
  7. Free time to explore after lunch, then the cable car station — ride down the mountainside into the city centre, around 20 minutes, up to 8 passengers per car.
  8. Travel by bus to the Green Mosque and its buildings, where your guide covers the history and architecture while you explore.
  9. Back to the coach for the return journey, arriving at your original pick up point at around 22:00.
