Cappadocia is quite arguable one of the most magical places on Earth. It is famous for its fairy chimneys and hot air balloon flights but it is home to so much more! If you want to witness not only the geological wonder of Cappadocia but also the history and culture of the area then this excursion is one for you!
The area of Cappadocia is comprised of many towns and villages and of course not all of them are underground! The village of Avanos boasts beautiful pottery and is locally renowned for its ceramics that are still created using processes that date back to the Hittites.
Devrent valley is an area full of abstract rock formations that are comparable to animals and people alike. Here the volcanic deposits have been eroded by time to resemble not only fairy chimneys but anything you can muster from your imagination. Perhaps the most photographed formation is that of ‘camel rock’.

On the road between Avanos and Goreme you will approach what is known as Love Valley. The reason that it was given this name is because so many people, enchanted by its magical ambience, come here to propose marriage to their loved ones. It isn’t hard to imagine, here among the chimneys and magical balloons soaring overhead, that a proposal would seem appropriate. This backdrop and the atmospheric sunset over Cappadocia make for the perfect photo opportunity. See for yourself why so many people come here to propose and so many accept!
Your next stop will be Goreme itself and the Goreme Open Air Museum. You will see the 4th to 13th century monastic buildings that, since 1985 have been part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will be able to visit the Churches cut from the rocks and see for yourself some of the best Byzantine art works contained here in Cappadocia. Here in Goreme there are churches and chapels, dining rooms and sitting rooms, for your comfort, and all cut from the ancient rock formations. An excellent place to take a breather or some refreshment, and to take some photographs of this unique and historical landscape.
If this isn’t enough to tempt your palate your next stop will be Esentepe viewpoint above Cappadocia. With its variety of restaurants and cafes overlooking the Goreme Valley and with stunning views, this again, is a marvellous place to stop, take refreshment and reflect on the amazing sights.
You will then travel on from the Esentepe viewpoint to Uchisar Castle at the highest point above the valley, and arguably, with the most beautiful views of all over the fairy chimneys and panoramic views of the landscape.
Coming to the close of the tour you will head down to Cavusin with its old Greek houses. This is one of the oldest settlements in the region. Situated along the Goreme to Avanos road, people still live in the rock cut houses among the many historical sites of monasteries and churches.
And finally along to Urgup Wine Cellar! You will visit the ancient wine cellar at Urgup where you may sample and purchase the original and authentic wine if you so wish. A perfect end to a perfect day!
