Perge Aspendos Side From Belek

Whilst you are staying in Belek it is hard to imagine that you are just a short journey away from some of the most impressive sites from the ancient world.  It’s time to tear yourself away from your hotel and get out and explore the wonders just waiting on the doorstep!

Within a few minutes of leaving Belek you will find yourself at Perge a city that dates back to around 1300 BC.  As you approach the city keep an eye to the right of the road as you pass by ancient arched bridges that remain from the times of the Selcuk Empire.  Upon arrival at the city of Perge you will be unable to miss the vast Amphitheatre that dominates the horizon. 

After passing through the gates, you will be treated to a stroll through the ruins of Perge, taking in the numerous sights as you walk along the paths.  Upon entering the city, you will pass through several gates each more impressive than the last.  The Roman baths are well preserved and it is easy to imagine the Romans socialising and relaxing in the heated pools.  The city itself is riddled with classic structures from the Hellenistic and Roman times.

From Perge the next stop will be at Aspendos.  This city is most famous for its impressive Amphitheatre.  The Amphitheatre at Aspendos is still used to this day and it is easy to see why.  As you pass through the lower entrance you will be left open mouthed at the sheer size of the place.  The rows and rows of seats tower above the centre stage and the acoustics are immediately apparent as you can hear the whispered conversations of fellow visitors from a good distance.  Of course, there is more to Aspendos than an Amphitheatre and you will be able to explore the hillside city accompanied by your English speaking tour guide.

Side is next up and just a short drive away.  Despite being exposed to the elements sat right on the coast, Side is one of the most well preserved ancient cities in the area.  As you enter the city you are immediately greeted by a Nymphaeum that has been restored to its former glory, leaving very little to the imagination.   As you continue along you passing ancient homes and columns you will reach the Amphitheatre.  You will then head down to the sea side to witness the ancient harbour which is still used today.  Perhaps the most magical sight is the towering temple of Apollo that dominates the horizon as you look out to sea.  The sight truly is spectacular to behold!

Last up on this tour is a visit to Kursunlu waterfall.  The waters flow from a height of 18 kilometres in the mountains and arrive at Kursunlu providing the area with the waters needed to produce the finest greenery.  The waterfall produces an ideal setting for some photography as the green and blue hues of the foliage meeting the blue waters of the forming pools contrast in a stunning backdrop.  You will have time here to explore and become one with nature. A peaceful and relaxed ending to a day steeped in history and culture.

Departure from your hotel is at around 09:00.  You will travel by a comfortable and modern vehicle to the first stop at Perge.  Accompanied by your professional guide you will explore all that the city has to offer before making the short onward journey to Aspendos. 

At Aspendos you will witness the grandeur of the Amphitheatre and revel at the ancient remnant of the city itself before heading into the village for a locally prepared lunch.

Following lunch your next stop will be at the coastal town of Side, where the temple of Apollo will leave you in awe at not only the history of the city but the sheer beauty of it too.  After you have seen the wonders within the ancient city walls you will make your way back to your transport for the final leg of the journey, Kursunlu waterfalls.

Upon arrival at the waterfalls, you will be left with your mouth wide open at the beauty as you drink in the hues of green and blue as forest meets river.  You will be given the opportunity to walk around and take some photos before heading back to your hotels in Belek.  Arrival at your hotel will be approximately 18:00.
