The travertine terraces are genuinely unlike anything we'd seen before — those blinding white calcium formations stretching across the hillside are the sort of landscape you think only exists in screensavers, and standing in the warm shallow pools was a surreal, memorable experience. Our guide spoke good English and clearly knew the history of Hierapolis well, and we appreciated the effort to walk us through the amphitheatre and necropolis before leaving us to explore freely. Cleopatra's Pool was worth the extra cost, in our opinion — floating in 36-degree water with actual Roman columns beneath your feet is genuinely special, and we'd encourage anyone to budget for it on the day.
That said, the overall package felt a bit rushed and unpolished for the price. The buffet lunch was mediocre at best — the kind of mass-catering spread that fills you up but doesn't leave any impression — and three hours of free time at the site really isn't enough when you're factoring in Hierapolis, the terraces, and the optional pool. The 4:30 am pickup followed by a nearly four-hour coach journey is a serious commitment, and we felt the guide's commentary on the road could have been a lot more engaging to make those hours feel worthwhile.
Thank you both for taking the time to share your honest thoughts with us. We're delighted Pamukkale and Cleopatra's Pool left such a lasting impression, and we'll take your feedback about the lunch quality and on-board commentary seriously — these are exactly the kinds of details we want to improve. We hope you'll consider travelling with Book From Locals again on your next visit to Turkey!
