Kos Island Tour Itinerary

08:45 AM Pick-up

For hotel pick-ups, the schedule ranges from 08:15 to 09:00 based on your location. The buses are comfortable and fully air-conditioned.

Depending on the group size, minibuses or larger buses will be used. Throughout the day, you’ll have an English and German-speaking guide accompanying you.

09:20 AM Asklepion

The first stop of the Kos Island Tour is Asklepion, an ancient healing temple dedicated to Asklepios, the first doctor-demigod in Greek mythology. It is said that Hippocrates received his medical training here.

Asklepion was built in the 4th century BC, and many people seeking healing came here. The site includes various buildings such as temples, treatment rooms, and dormitories, along with a large altar where offerings were made.

Asklepion served not only as an ancient hospital for healing but also as a school where medical students studied and shared knowledge with each other.

During your 1-hour visit here, your guide will take you through the three levels of Asklepion, followed by a 15-minute photo break.

11:00 AM Zia Village

Next, you will drive to Zia village. Zia is located at a high altitude and offers great views of Tigaki, Marmari, Salt Lake, Kalymnos and Pserimos islands, and the shores of Turkey.

You will have 30 minutes of free time to enjoy the panorama, take some photos, and have a cup of Greek coffee.

11:50 AM Blue Domed Church

After your free time, you will visit an Orthodox church in Lagoudi village with your guide. It’s a fantastic-looking church with a blue dome and a nicely decorated interior.

The church was built in 1910. You can sit and enjoy the altars, reliefs, and frescoes while your guide informs you about the church.

The priest of the church, Father Kiriakos, is friendly and was an old sailor in Germany. He speaks German and English and is happy to inform people about the church.

1:30 PM Kefalos

Following the church visit, you will drive to Kefalos, passing the busy inland town of Antimachia and Kos International Airport.

Depending on the group’s mobility and the crowding at the destination, your guide will choose to go to Agias Stefanos or Kamari Bay.

At Agias Stefanos Beach, you can visit the ruins of the Basilica St. Stefanos, its mosaics, and the columns of the basilica.

At Kamari Bay, you can enjoy swimming in the turquoise waters and sunbathing on the sandy beach. At both locations, you can enjoy lunch at nearby tavernas

3:00 PM Thyme & Honey Factory (Optional)

At this factory, you can learn about how local beekeepers produce honey. You can see beekeeper protective clothing, hives of bees, and become familiar with beekeeping tools.

You will learn how honey is extracted, both in the old-fashioned way and with modern techniques. Taste honey from flowers, pine, thyme, wild strawberry, and heather.

You can also enjoy freshly cooked loukoumades, fried and dipped in honey and cinnamon, as well as local honey liquor.

This is an optional stop, and your guide will inform you about it and visit upon the group’s request.

3:20 PM Traditional Windmill Of Antimachia

Following your Kefalos visit, the next stop is the Traditional Windmill of Antimachia. It’s one of the few productive windmills in Greece. You can see how the windmill works and how flour is produced using the power of the wind.

There is also an exhibition area inside where you can see the traditional lifestyle of Greeks, including kitchenware, clothes, musical instruments, and daily tools.

Before leaving, you can purchase a bag of biscuits or breadsticks made from the flour from the mill and enjoy them with a cup of Greek coffee when you are back home.

4:00 PM Return

After exploring these sights, the tour continues through olive groves and vineyards, returning to Tigaki by 4:00 PM and Kos Town by 4:30 PM.

Very nice and informative day. Guide tried to tell us as much as possible about island. We found visit to beekeeping farm a little superfluous. But otherwise everything was great. Guide always tried to show us island, stopping bus every now and then to show us something or deviating slightly from route. Highly recommended.

Well organized. Best thing was that our guide was not only very relaxed, but also occasionally shared personal details, such as living situation on Kos, in addition to technical and historical information. We also went up mountain with actual village on Kefalos peninsula, so that we could take some wonderful photos from up there. Great. For me, trip was completely worth it.
