Marmaris Istanbul Day Trip (By Plane)

  Last Updated: July 12, 2024

Easily the largest city in Turkey, with its mixed cultures, history and architecture, Istanbul sits, as always, a main player on the stage of world history.  The instantly recognisable skylines have nothing to do with skyscrapers and modern buildings but more to do with ancient Rome and Byzantine Emperors, all players in religious and world politics.  For 400 years Istanbul has been in the safe hands of the Ottoman Empire and redefined itself as a city with a foot on two continents.  To love modern Istanbul, is to love life.

Statistically, Istanbul is 810 kilometres from Marmaris, or to put it succinctly, a 50 minute flight away.  If you didn’t think it could be done  in a day, then think again.  In less time than it takes most trains to reach central London, you can be in this fabulous metropolis soaking up the ambience of one of the world’s  most intriguing cities.  An early morning internal flight from Dalaman and you can be drinking Turkish coffee in Sultanahmet Square in the shade of the Blue Mosque by 10:00.

This is a fantastic opportunity to have a taste of what Istanbul has to offer without sacrificing your beach holiday.  As you can be there and back within 24 hours you will still have plety of time for other acivities and will be able to feel satisfied that you have visited arguably one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Marmaris Istanbul Day Trip Itinerary

This tour is tailor made to suit your needs and your final agreed dates and flight times will be confirmed on your ticket once it is booked (you will still need to take your passport and any necessary paperwork) you will be picked up at your hotel and transferred to Dalaman Airport for the internal 50 minute flight to Istanbul.  With only an hour waiting period at the airport, you can be in Istanbul and hitting the streets as early as 10:00.

You will have a guide with you if you so wish, or you may take free time in the city.  With a pre-arranged rendezvous to return, all you have to do is be there on time to return to the airport.

With the airport transfer taking you into Sultanahmet, you will arrive in the centre of this renowned area and may not wish to travel any further, with so much to see in very easy walking distance.

Sultanahmet is home to the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, The Hippodrome, The German  Fountain, The Egyptian Bazaar (Spice Bazaar) , the Underground Basilica and The Topkapi Palace.  With so much to see, combined with shops and restaurants and an easy walk to the Bosphorous, there may be no reason for you to travel into the wider expanse of the city.

Bear in mind that the footwork alone will take up some time, so better to plan ahead with a street map, which places you would like to visit the most.

At the designated time, you will meet your guide and take the journey back to the airport and your flight back to Dalaman, then on to your Marmaris hotel.

Q&A

How much is Marmaris Istanbul Day Tour?

Cost of Istanbul Day Trip from Marmaris is 250 € for adults and free for children under 2 years old in 2024.

It seems like a lot to do in one day, is it worth it?

You may need to plan your day ahead to get it all in.  There is certainly a lot to see that does not require entry fees and with Sultanahmet being the last stop from the airport, you will see the trams and buses throughout the day here and find it quite easy to get your bearings.

What do i need to take?

Do wear appropriate footwear for the amount of walking involved.

Bring money with you or credit cards, for food, drinks or souvenirs that you may wish to purchase.

Bring your suncream and sunglasses.  The sun can be equally as hot in Istanbul as it is in Marmaris, also wear comfortable loose clothing for your own comfort.  It is recommended to carry a small water bottle with you once you have left the airport.

Don’t forget to bring your camera!

What is included in my ticket?

Once you purchase your ticket you will have return transfers and flight tickets.  Entrance fees are included in the cost as well as your English speaking guide.  Insurance is also covered.

Are there any restrictions as to who should go?

Because of the amount of walking involved it is not recommended for anyone with difficulties, or for very small children who would tire easily.

Which airline will we be travelling with?

Turkish Airlines have the most comprehensive flight availabilities and are the airline of choice.  This is subject to times and days.
