Overlooking Antalya and surrounding regions are the Tahatlı Mountains. From a peak of 2365 metres you can enjoy the panoramic views by taking the Mount Olympos Cable Car to the top. The total length of the cable car is 4350 metres. The Cable Car has been in operation since 1908 and was built in Grindenwald Switzerland, one of the first of many roped cable cars designed and built by the Doppermayr/Garaventa Company.
The roped cable cars have been built in accordance with the European CEN for normal and harsh environmental conditions. The cars are equipped with the most modern technology. The route of 4350 metres is one of the longest in the world and it offers the customer safety and comfort, together with the most spectacular scenery imaginable, as you travel higher beyond the tree line, past the changing rock formations and colours and all with the ever present Mediterranean Sea gracing the backdrop to your journey.
There are two roped cable cars, each with a capacity of 80 people per car, which leave from the base for the 10 minute journey to the peak. The base station is 726 metres above sea level and you will travel to the peak station, which is 2365 metres above sea level. Each Cable Car offers you 360 degree views of the glorious mountain scenery.
Once you reach the peak and have surely built up an appetite with the amazingly clear mountain air, there are facilities for the discerning tourist to enjoy. There are viewing platforms, washroom facilities and the wonderfully aromatic Shakespeare Restaurant and Bistro! The very aptly named ‘As You Like It’ restaurant is even open for evening meals. The Bistro serves snacks and aromatic coffees and teas, just perfect to relax with and enjoy the view. The Shakespeare Restaurants began life in 2007 in the city of Antalya and have blossomed throughout the region with venues in Alanya as well as Antalya, and now even throughout Turkey!
Finally, on the upstairs floor of the Peak Station there is an activity hall which is for private hire, such as weddings or business meetings, once again, with that amazing vista over the Tahtalı Mountains.
